Adopted Dogs: Former Fosters

MN Pit Stop is no longer taking in or adopting out dogs. We will continue to offer training services through Urbane Animal Behavior

Thank you to everyone who has adopted dogs from MPSR over the years, and has shown support and love for our dogs!

2016 Zoey–Adopted!!! Thank you C & J.

Meet Zoey, named after Zooey Deschanel, the actress who plays Jess Day on New Girl, and since this pup is new to our rescue, she’s our “New Girl”!

Zoey was picked up as a stray and not reclaimed. She is estimated to be around 9-10 months old. Still very puppy like, but mature enough to not chew everything and she’s able to hold her bladder! She is very social and playful with other dogs. She gets along beautifully with all people: children and adults. She rides well in cars, hasn’t shown any noise phobias (storms or fireworks), she is food and socially motivated, she walks well on a no-pull harness. She is currently learning how to crate train, and we’re polishing up her potty training skills. Zoey will be spayed and vaccinated prior to being available for adoption!

If you’re interested in Zoey, please fill out the Adoption Survey (link above). Thank you!

  • Breed: Mixed breed (Am. Staff. mix)
  • Color: red brindle
  • Age: 9-10 months
  • Weight: 45-50 pounds

2015 Brooklyn–Adopted!

Brooklyn is a very social and sweet girl. She adores being snuggled and being with her people. She also enjoys playing with other playful dogs. Brooklyn has been around multiple young children, cats, and other dogs, and does well with all of them. We are working on leash manners with her, as she does get excited when she sees other dogs while on leash. Overall this girl is a fantastic dog, and will be a great addition to the lucky family who adopts her. She is current on vaccinations, spayed, house trained, crate trained, microchipped, and rides well in the car. No storm or noise phobias, or separation anxiety issues to our knowledge. She is a mixed breed dog, so we don’t know her breed make-up. Although Brooklyn does well with children, we would prefer to find her a home older children or dog-savvy children. She would love another dog friend in the home, but can be an only dog as well. If you’re interested in adding a stocky, love-a-bull dog to your life, let us know!

  • Breed: Mixed breed (possibly Bulldog x Labrador Retriever or Am. Staff. mix)
  • Color: Black with white on neck and chest
  • Age: 3 years young
  • Weight: 60 pounds
  • Sociability: Great with everyone: children, cats, and dogs (we are emphasizing a home with children 8+ years, since young children may be contributing to her stress-induced itchiness). Needs work on leash, but is improving with the use of head-collar (included with the adoption).
  • Medical: Current of vaccinations, spayed, micro-shipped. Full blood/chemistry panel and thyroid tests done: normal ranges for everything.

2015 Maddie–Adopted! Thanks H family!

Meet Maddie! She’s a one year old, long-haired German Shepherd Dog x King Shepherd. Maddie is a lovely girl, she has classic Shepherd personality traits: sticks near by, whines and talks, is a loyal companion. She is active, yet not hyper. She walks great on leash, and loves riding in cars. She’ll require frequent grooming to keep her coat beautiful and healthy. Maddie is house trained and crate trained.

  • Breed: German Shepherd Dog x King Shepherd
  • Color: Black and Tan
  • Age: 1 year old
  • Weight: 64 pounds and growing
  • Sociability: Does fine with other dogs and dog-savvy cats, and all people.
  • Medical: Current on vaccinations and spayed.

2015 Crumpet–Adopted!

Super friendly, shorty-bull girl seeks fun-loving family to call her own. Crumpet is a low-rider American Staffordshire Terrier mix. She looks and acts like a cross between an American Staffordshire Terrier and a Boston Terrier (without DNA testing, we don’t know for sure). She LOVES everyone. She snorts. She climbs into your lap. She likes to chase toys and then take them to her bed. She LOVES food, and is very motivated to work for it. Crumpet caught onto Clicker Training right away. She is learning to Sit for attention, lay down, hand target, go to crate, go to bed, and Come. She is tolerant-to-selective with other dogs, so she needs proper introductions and is not a “dog park” dog. She is very excited and curious about cats, so a home with very dog-savvy cats or no cats is best.

  • Breed(s): American Staffordshire Terrier (mix); she could be purebred, or mixed with other breeds like Boston Terrier.
  • Color: Black and white, Tuxedo pattern. Cropped ears.
  • Age: guessing around 3
  • Weight: 43 pounds
  • Sociability: Would do best as an only dog, but could live with other animals depending on the home. Home with adults is best; no children due to her excitement and mouthiness at times.
  • Medical: current on vaccinations, spayed and microchipped.

2014 Mr. Moose–Adopted through Chicagoland Shepherd Rescue

Moose_2Moose, the German Shepherd Dog, is a handsome guy looking for an active family. He likes to go for walks, runs, and play fetch. He rides great in the car, and loves getting into cars so much, he’ll hesitate at every parked car we pass just to see if maybe we’ll let him jump into that car. Moose is crate trained, and house trained. With slow, proper introductions Moose may be fine with other dogs, but he tends to be a bit pushy during his initial greeting which can turn dogs off to him. He’s been friendly with people he meets, but again his initial greetings can give people pause since he will bark at new people sometimes. Moose would benefit from being placed with people who have German Shepherd experience, or with people who are eager to learn about the breed. We do force-free training with our dogs, and Moose has started on Clicker Training. He is doing great with basic cues like: Sit, Down, Come, Off, Kennel Up. And he wears a head-collar while walking. Please contact us if you’re interested in Moose.

  • Breed: German Shepherd Dog
  • Color: Black and tan
  • Age: ~2-3 years
  • Size: 27″ at shoulder, 85-90 pounds
  • Sociability: Good with people, may be fine with other dogs, prefer no cats.
  • Medical: Current on Vaccinations, microchipped, and neutered.

2014 Stella Rosa–Adopted! Thank you Alex!

Stella is a sweet, little lady who adores being around all people. She loves snuggling next to her people. She is playful and has medium energy level. This girl is what we call a “light-switch” dog; when you want to chill, she’ll chill, but when you want to play, she’ll join in. A dog you can turn “on” and “off”. Stella is very social with other dogs, cats, and children. She’s a bit anxious on car rides–whines, but does better being loose vs crated in the car. Her only vice is that she has a sensitive stomach, so rich meals or stress cause her to vomit. When she is feeling secure and kept on a routine, she does great, and is the best companion family dog. This girl is sure to wiggle her way into your heart in no time!

  • Breed: Mixed (possibly American Staffordshire Terrier)
  • Color: Brindle with white on neck and chest
  • Age: 3.5 years young
  • Weight: 52 pounds of wiggly, love
  • Sociability: Great with everyone, dogs, cats, and kids
  • Medical: Spayed, current on Vaccinations, Mircochipped, de-wormed. Heart worm and Lyme-Negative.Stella_3 Stella_4 Stella_5

2014 Mitchell–Adopted! Thank you K&K!

Hi my name is Mitch. I’m a sweet guy who really likes being around other dogs, and people I can trust. I was abandoned and left on my own for quite sometime, so I’m learning to trust and be around people again. I may be a little shy at first, but once I understand you’re here to be my friend, then I’ll be your loyal companion. I’ve met many other dogs and have done great with all of them. I am curious about the cats I live with, but I won’t hurt them. I love food! I’m learning how to play with toys and chew on bones. Turns out sofas and beds are nice to sleep on, and when I cuddle up to people they pet me and gush about how handsome I am.

I like my crate, it gives me security. I haven’t had any accidents in the house, but my foster family keeps a close eye on me and doesn’t leave me unattended. I do well in fenced-in yards; I don’t dig or climb. I also ride well in cars, although sometimes I’m a little worried about jumping in and out of them, but with patience I can do it!

I’d do best in a home where my new family will be patient with me, train me using positive reinforcement, and will possibly have other doggie friends for me to play with. I’m shy around young children since I can’t predict their movements, but I think I would adjust if my house wasn’t super busy or loud.

  • Breed: mixed (possibly American Staffordshire Terrier mix)
  • Gender: Male-neutered
  • Color: Blue-brindle with white on chest, legs, and head
  • Age: Adult (possibly 4 years)
  • Weight: 60 pounds
  • Sociability: Great with other dogs, good with adult people (shy at first), good with dog-savvy cats, shy around young children
  • Medical: Current on vaccinations (Rabies, Combo, Bordetella), Dewormed, Negative for heart worm, Lymes, and Anaplasma
  • Mitch_2 Mitch_3

2014 Patrick–Adopted! Thank you H family!

Hi I’m Patrick! I love meeting new people, playing fetch, and swimming! I’ve been around young children, other dogs, and cats and I do good everyone. Sometimes I may annoy other dogs with my puppy play style, but I’m learning some self control. And when I’m excited I still tend to puppy mouth, but again I’m still learning. It’s a good thing I love learning new things! I enjoy going for walks (I walk pretty well on leash), playing ball, and hanging with my peeps. If you’re an active person looking for a sidekick to go on adventures with, well I may just be your guy. At the end of the day, I would love to cuddle up and be a couch potato with you as well.

Patrick is crate trained and house trained (under supervision upon arrival to a new home). He is learning basic manners like: Sit, Down, Come, Drop It, Leave It, Kennel Up, and not to be mouthy. With continued guidance, structure and positive reinforcement, Patrick will be a great adult dog.

  • Breed: Mixed breed (has features that resemble American Staffordshire Terrier and Labrador Retriever)
  • Color: Blue-fawn with a white patch on his chest, and white on his back toes.
  • Weight: 68 pounds
  • Age: ~12-18 months old
  • Sociability: Great with all people, social with other dogs and cats.
  • Medical: Current on vaccinations, dewormed, neutered and microchipped.

2014 Ben- Adopted!

Ben_froglegsMeet Ben, a handsome young guy getting a new start on life. Ben is not only good looking, but he’s a smarty pants too. He is learning basic manners, and currently knows to say “please” by sitting. He is also learning: Come, Down, Back, Kennel up, Drop It, Take It, and Leave It. Ben is doing great with walking on leash. He’s met an array of dogs since arriving into our rescue and has great social skills. He is also co-living with three cats and is respectful of them.

Ben was picked up as a stray dog in Rochester, Mn and was at the Animal Control facility since March. We do not have any other history on him. During his time at the impound, he was reported to be nippy, but considering he’s under a year old, and had no enrichment or consistent exercise, we were understanding of this.  He does tend to be a little fearful of men when he first meets them, but after being given some treats, he warms up quickly.

  • Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier mix
  • Color: Red with white on muzzle and freckles
  • Age: 10-11 months old
  • Weight: 49.5 lbs.
  • Sociability: Great with other dogs, social with dog-savvy cats, leery of new people but warms up quickly.
  • Vet care: Neutered, microchipped, UTD on vaccinations, and dewormed.

2014 Mae- Adopted! Thank you L family!

Mae is a delightful lady who has been a phenomenal foster dog for us. She is very loving and kind, she loves to snuggle but isn’t pushy. Mae is house trained, crate trained, and rides good in cars. She has done great meeting other dogs, and is currently living with three cats. She lived with young children in her previous home, and has done great meeting people of all ages. She is an all-around great dog. Mae loves to play fetch with tennis balls, and is learning to swim in water. She listens well, and understands basic commands/cues. We can have her off-leash with us on walks and in the yard under supervision. She is not a barker, but will whine when she’s stressed or needs to go outside. Mae is around 5-6 years young, and is full grown at 63 pounds. She is spayed, current on vaccinations, dewormed, and tested negative for heart worms.

He’s met all sorts of people and children, and loves everyone. He does bond quickly to his people and will be a very loyal companion to his next family. 2013 Sydney- RIP

We rescued Sydney at the end of August, 2013 after she had been at Maple Grove Impound for six weeks. She had been abandoned, and no other rescues were able to spring her from the facility. Her time was about to end, and her life had been full of stress and days sitting in a cinderblock kennel (Just to clarify, MGI does their best to care for the animals in their facility–this is not a dig on them, but its still a kennel life and not a home). We brought her home with the hopes to adopt her out to a loving family. However once we got her home and she was able to express herself, she showed us signs that she needed behavior modification and training before she could be safely placed in new home where other animals might be present. After several weeks of b-mod and training, Sydney was improving and showing us she could be trustworthy with other furry friends with proper management. During this time we noticed she started favoring her left hind leg, so when we had her spayed we had the vet assess her leg as well. That’s when we were told she tore her CCL (equivalent to ACL in people). We were going to drain our rescue funds to repair her knee, however before she could have surgery she tore her other knee as well. With two torn knees, we simply couldn’t afford to surgeries, and we didn’t want to continue to see her suffer, so we decided to humanely euthanize her. It was a very tough decision and not one that we made lightly. For over a month, she was a family member, she was a well-cared for dog who was loved, well fed, slept on sofas, went for car rides, snuggled with people and was shown compassion that she may not have known before. We were sad to say good-bye, but happy we could give her wonderful days.

She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.

  • Weight: 54 pounds

  • She is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped.

2013 Jasper-Adopted! Thank you Dawn!

Jasper is intelligent, playful, and very sweet. He is crate trained, is 98% potty trained, and will now begin learning basic manners through positive reinforcement. He has such great potential; he’s already a great puppy, and with the right guidance, he’ll make an excellent dog!

2013 Lola-Adopted! Thanks Elle!

Lola was brought in as a stray dog to a local humane society. Due to her charismatic and social nature, living in the kennels wasn’t good for her. Sammy- Adopted!

Sam is a lovely senior dog in search of a new home. He is an easy keeper and pretty low maintanance. Sam gets along well with other dogs, cats and children. At the end of June, Sam participated in a local parade where 100′s of people turned out, many of which were young children who came up to pet him. Sam is did great during the event, there were all sorts of distractions, smells, people and other dogs; Sam took everything in stride. At home, Sam likes to be in the company of us, but he’s not underfoot or clingy. He does well with the three cats in the home, he tends to just ignore them. Outside, he loves to smell around, go for walks, slide down hills on his back and play fetch. He does need to be supervised when outside, because he can wander. For this reason, he’ll do best if kept on a leash or longline, or a fenced-in yard. Once he bonds with you, he can be trusted off-leash under supervision. For a senior dog, Sam is still very playful and has quite a bit of stamina, yet he’s ready to settle when he’s in the house. This guy can easily be around for several more years. So if you’re looking for a low-fuss, no-muss dog, look no further, Sam is your guy!

Sully is very sweet and loves EVERYONE he meets. He is social with other dogs and is currently living with two other dogs and three cats. He tends to be a focused on the cats when they run, so a home with dog-savvy cats would be best.

He is roughly two years old and currently weighs 76 pounds. Sully is neutered and current on vaccinations. He is house-trained, crate trained and rides well in the car. He has basic manners under his belt and would be a great family dog. He would do well with children of any age and is mellow around kids. After a bit of exercisze each day, Sully is then happy to lay around and be a coach potato.

He did great during his dog-to-dog introductions with our dogs and so far he seems fine with cats. If they harass him and give chase, he will follow, but is easy to call off them. He’s meet several new people today and has done well, if he’s nervous, he lays down. He’s playing with toys and loves running in the yard with the other dogs. We’ll be working on his basic manners and leash walking skills. If you’re interested in adopting this fantastic boy, please contact us through the contact link! Thanks for looking.

Odie–Adopted!  Thank you Summer!

Odie is a six month old male, blue and white APBT. In his last home, Odie broke his left hind femur and his previous owner couldn’t afford to “fix” it. Rather than have him euthanized, we were contacted to see if we could help him. By that time, Odie’s leg wasn’t savable, so we had it amputated on Nov 22. He is doing amazingly well and will be available to go into a new home soon!

Odie is doing very well with his training. We started him on clicker training and he’s loving it. Potty training has been going very well too. Nana loves being with her people and she is great with other dogs and cats. Recently she attended an educational event with a dozen kids under the age of 10. She was fantastic with them and seemed to soak up all their pets and attention. Nana is due to be spayed soon. She has been updated on her vaccinations and deworming. She does have an ear infection at the moment that we’re treating her for, but she handles the treatments great. She is by far one of the sweetest and easiest fosters we’ve had the privilege to have in our lives.

Lacy is a lovely, little American Pit Bull Terrier. She is a bit shy and reserved when you first meet her, but her eyes will melt your heart. Lacy enjoys playing fetch and zooming around outside and with other dogs, but also loves snuggling on your lap and giving kisses. She will need an owner that will build her confidence and bring her out of her shell. We don’t doubt Lacy will be an exceptional dog (she already is), she just needs someone to give her the right direction through positive reinforcement training and enrichment. Lacy is dog social and cat friendly. She is currently living with two other dogs and three cats. She is crate trained, house trained and rides well in the car. Lacy currently weighs 46 pounds and will remain a smaller sized pit bull. We have rated Lacy as a PG-17 dog. HoneyAdopted! Thank you Justin and Amber

Honey is a young girl that came out of a neglectful situation. Despite the rough start in life, she is happy, happy, happy! Honey is fairly small, currently only weighs 32 lbs. This could be due to a variety of reasons…runt of a litter, mal-nurishment, bred before one year of age? She adores being with people & kids, is dog social and friendly with cats! This girl probably won’t need much dental care, since she loves to chew on bones and tough chew toys thus keeping her teeth clean in the process! She loves playing fetch with tennis balls and is learning the “drop it” cue. She didn’t come with any foundation training, but we’re taking care of that! She is very food motivated, although a bit picky about her treats, so training her is fun. She crates well and is house trained. Her only vice is that she gets very nervous while riding in the car. We are working on counter-conditioning and desensitizing her to car rides, but behavior modification always takes time. For now, if we have to travel anywhere, she gets crated in a hard-plastic crate and it gets covered to cut down on the stimuli. This seems to help her! Crate included in adoption.

Overall we couldn’t be more pleased with this dog! She has a fantastic recall and we are already doing off-leash training with her! She really is living up to her name, Honey!

DSC03998Our newest addition is LuLu.  She arrived August 15th after being abandoned by her previous people.

LuLu appears to be an American Pit Bull Terrier with  possibly a touch of Boxer.  She will most likely be a medium sized dog when full grown, weighing between 45-60 lbs.  She is doing very well in her training, currently she understands: sit, down, come, kennel up, leave it, off, drop it, shake, target, go potty, and go poop.

Lulu is quite a little ham, she loves to carry toys around in her mouth and playfully growl at you while doing so.  She also loves using her front legs to box at you and other dogs, which lead us to believe maybe she had some Boxer in her.  LuLu has a good re-call, but she’s still a puppy so she can get distracted easily.  She will need to be placed in an active home with people who will continue her training.  She’s a people pleaser though and is very food motivated!

She will continue to be in ambassador training until she goes to her new home, learning basic manners and potty training.  Currently living with our two dogs, two cats, and parrot.

sherlocksitting 001Meet Sherlock, a male Blue-fawn American Pit Bull Terrier available for adoption.

Sherlock has all the fixings to be a Canine Good Citizen when he comes of age to take the test. He is also on his way to becoming a great breed ambassador! He was rescued out of a bad situation in the Twin Cities by a good Samaritan who unfortunately could not keep him. That’s when we stepped in and took this adorable little guy into our home.

Sherlock is a very intelligent puppy and is cute as a button! He is crate trained and doing great with potty training. He is currently living with our other two dogs, cats and a parrot.

We adore Sherlock’s great personality and goofy antics. He’s sure to make everyone in the room coo and laugh at the same time!
